Long Beach

With Steve's upcoming job change (see next post) and the lack of vacation time that he will have while at the academy, we decided that we had better get away while we had the chance. So, over Mother's Day weekend, we decided to go to Long Beach, Washington for a little family vacation. (My vote was for Disneyland, but that is not exactly a "little" vacation. Someday...).

With the exception of a couple of Travis meltdowns, we had a blast! Steve took that Friday off, so we were able to arrive early enough that it felt like a full 3 days of vacation. The weather was beautiful on Friday, so that's when we played and walked on the beach and on the boardwalk. On Saturday we did some driving sight-seeing, visited a lighthouse and some cute shops, and swam in the swimming pool. And the highlight of Sunday was definitely the feeding of the seagulls! Oh, and the place we stayed at was great...it was townhouse-style, so we had basically a 1 bedroom apartment, so we could put the kids down at 8:00 and not have to go to bed with them, and we ate several meals there. Surprisingly cheap, too.

Some notes about the pictures...Travis was actually not too thrilled with the ocean. I should have known, considering that 1)He doesn't like to get dirty, and sand makes you dirty, and 2)he doesn't like loud noises. And the ocean is loud. So for now, Travis does not share our love for the ocean, but maybe one day he'll come around. Anyway, when we first walked him somewhat close to the water, his reaction was to run away from it and hide behind our van. Then we finally convinced him that all he needed to do was plug his ears, which he did, but still was not willing to get too close to the water. We were not exactly sympathetic, but laughed at him. Jayna, on the other hand, was as curious as ever and seemed to enjoy herself. She loves to touch everything she sees. If I wasn't worried about sand in the eyes, I would have let her crawl around in it more.

Plugging the ears....
And hiding behind the car
Standing by the skeleton of a grey whale.

Dirt on the face, and he's still alive!

Feeding the seagulls from the back of the van. Aren't they cute, just waiting patiently?

Super fun! Thats hilarious about Travis . . . I didn't know that he doesn't like to be dirty. What a funny boy.

If it makes you feel any better, last year when we went to Hawaii, Brayden cried everytime we went on the sand. It was quite funny. I think Brayden and Travis are more alike than we probably know:)

First of all, sweet Odyssey Sarabeth. Aren't we cool minivan moms? Secondly, that is so cool that Sam had a baby. Third, a police officer. We need more police officers like Steve. That is so great!

Oh my, Travis cracks me up. Congrats to Steve.
